Elk-Cloner was the world’s first virus.

Elk Cloner was created as a prank in 1981 by Rich Skrenta, a 15-year-old high school student. Skrenta already had a notoriety among his friends because, in sharing computer games and software, he would often alter the floppy disks to shut down or display taunting on-screen messages. Due to this reputation for pranks, many of his friends simply stopped accepting floppy disks from him. Skrenta thought of methods to alter floppy disks without physically touching them. During a winter break from theMt. Lebanon High School in Pennsylvania, United States, Skrenta discovered how to launch the messages automatically on his Apple II computer. He developed what is now known as a boot sector virus, and began circulating it in early 1982 among high school friends and a local computer club. 25 years later in 2007, Skrenta called it “some dumb little practical joke.”

First Business Purpose Virus

The first ever business computer virus was developed in 1986 by two Pakistani brothers in Lahore Pakistan. The first computer virus named “Brain” was designed by Amjad Farooq Alvi and Basit Farooq Alvi with the intention of detering the piracy of a software written by them. “Brain virus” was not destructive and used to test the replication attributes of DOS.  Brain had the function to replicate itself within the disks inserted inside a brain hit computer. Both the genius brothers are entrepreneurs and are currently operating a company named “Brain Pvt Limited” that provides ISP, IPTV, Telephony and various other services to the potential customers. The interesting fact remains that the location of the “Brain Pvt Limited” is exactly the same where the virus was first developed.  It is quite surprising that these two brothers were so brave that they even mentioned the original address on the computer virus.  The following lines were found written as a part of the entire virus structure.
